Frances Welch – The Lives and Deaths of the Princesses of Hesse

February 26 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm

The four Princesses of Hesse, granddaughters of Queen Victoria were at the centre of the maelstrom of early 20th century Europe. After the sudden death of their mother, Queen Victoria took an obsessive interest in the sisters’ marriage prospects. Drawing on hundreds of previously unpublished letters ‘The Lives and Deaths of the Proncesses of Hesse’ tells the story of family frictions, love, loyalty, disobedience, grandeur, terror – and assassination.

Frances Welch has written five books about the Romanovs, including a biography of the Imperial children’s tutor ‘The Romanovs and Mr Gibbes’, the story of the escape of Tsar Nicholas’s mother and sister from the Crimea in 1919, ‘The Russian Court At Sea’, and a biography of Rasputin.
