“The Wild Man of Orford” exhibition at Orford Castle

Not to be missed! An exhibition of the Wild Man of Orford will be on display at Orford Castle from 13th – 16th August, with an array of handmade models by Orford, Snape and Bawdsey Primary Schools.
The exhibition tells the story of the Merman and will then be on display at Orford Flower Show on Saturday 29th August.
The “Wild Man of Orford”, often described as a Merman is a famous 12th-century legend. A naked hairy merman-like creature was caught in the nets by local fishermen near Orford. He couldn’t speak or understand language, and ate raw fish. He was imprisoned in Orford Castle, but eventually when his captors saw he was harmless, he was taken to swim in the sea, where he escaped and was never seen again.
Tickets on the day of entry cost £12 for adults and £6 for children, but Friends of Orford Museum can enter Orford Castle free of charge for two adults and up to six children. You can become a Friend for as little as £15 by clicking here.

A year’s Friends of Orford Museum Membership costs £20 a couple (£15 single membership) which includes unlimited entry to Orford castle for 2 adults and up to six children for the year and copies of the Museum’s bulletin The Orford Historian.
