Simon Pearson and Fiona Gorman in conversation with eminent pioneering surgeon Magdi Yacoub

Simon Pearson and Fiona Gorman will be joined by Magdi Yacoub in person, for a discussion about their book on his extraordinary life. He has been at the forefront of cardiac surgery for more than 50 years and, at the age of 90, is still leading research in Britain and Egypt.

In the early 1960s Yacoub moved to London to work with Professor Sir Russell Brock, one of the great pioneers of open heart surgery. He performed some of the first heart transplants in Britain, the first heart-lung transplant in Europe, and developed new operations that improved the lives of millions of people, particularly children, across the globe.

Following his very successful recent talk on The Great Escape, Simon Pearson returns to Butley Priory, this time accompanied by his wife Fiona Gorman. They both worked for The Times in London and moved from south London to Suffolk two years ago.
