Orford Museum presents a Son et Lumière at Orford Castle, an English Heritage site.
A dazzling sound and light show held outside in the castle grounds. 900 years of history retold with music and words narrated by David Morrissey with Paul Casar, Mackenzie Crook, Toby Jones, Georgia Mann, Anna Maxwell-Martin, Harry Michell, Max Norman, Steve Peck, Miranda Raison, Diana Quick.
Gates open 7pm and the show starts at dusk at 8.45pm – 10pm. No children under 7 years and no dogs. NB mobility access very limited with rough and hilly terrain. No wheelchair access.
Please bring rugs, cushions and folding chairs as you will be sitting on grassy ground. Warm clothes, comfortable flat shoes and bring a torch. There will be some lighting. Picnics welcome but please take your rubbish home.
As well as the Son et Lumière performance, Jamie Lee Smith Catering will be offering a wide variety of exciting street food and drinks (sample menus available here). This will be available to both ticket holders and non-ticket holders alike outside the Castle railings from 6.00pm until 9.00pm. So, even if you have not been able to book a ticket, you can enjoy a take-away with a difference!
FREE parking on Orford recreation ground (subject to weather) and Orford Quay Street car park (pay and display). No parking or drop-off at the castle. The recorded event will be available on our website for those who are unable to attend.
Numbers are strictly regulated by English Heritage so please ensure you have a ticket and you will be given a wristband on entry.
In the event of extreme weather the event will be postponed until summer 2027, please check our website for update.

The map below shows you the location of car parks, toilets, etc in the vicinity of Orford Castle. Please study it carefully as the car park at the castle will be out of use on the day.

This is Orford Museum’s most ambitious event to date, the costs of mounting this spectacular and educational show are large and we are keeping ticket prices to a minimum so that the event is available to the widest audience. Whether or not you are able to attend in person, any donations towards the production of the Son et Lumière would be gratefully received.
